The target list follows the source dimension, so mass cannot accidentally be converted to voltage.

WHAT IT DOES

Convert engineering units without crossing physical dimensions.

Enter a number, choose its source unit, and choose the target unit. The target list is automatically limited to the same physical dimension, so the tool applies the matching factor or temperature equation without requiring awkward symbols or allowing nonsensical cross-dimension requests.

Why use it?

Use it to translate a quantity between compatible units without mixing physical dimensions or decimal and binary prefixes.

How to use this tool

  1. Enter the value and select the source and target units, then convert.
  2. Check the unit spelling as well as the number: 1 MB is 1,000,000 bytes, while 1 MiB is 1,048,576 bytes. Temperature values may also need an offset rather than only multiplication.

Details and limitations

  • Coverage includes length, area, volume, mass, force, pressure, torque, energy, power, temperature, angle, frequency, voltage, current, resistance, capacitance, inductance, charge, data size, and data rate.
  • SI definitions and prefixes were checked on 30 August 2026 against the BIPM SI Brochure version 3.02; non-SI factors use NIST SP 811, and binary information units follow IEC 80000-13:2025.
  • Decimal data units and binary IEC units remain distinct: MB means 1,000,000 bytes while MiB means 1,048,576 bytes.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Unit Converter questions

Can this convert kilograms to litres?
No. Mass and volume are different dimensions; converting between them requires a material density that the input has not supplied.
Are MB and MiB interchangeable?
No. MB uses a decimal multiplier of one million bytes, while MiB uses a binary multiplier of 1,048,576 bytes.
Why does the target list change?
Choosing a source unit establishes the physical dimension. The target picker then shows only compatible units, preventing invalid conversions such as kilograms to volts.
