WHAT IT DOES
Base64 for text and for real files.
Encode UTF-8 text to Base64 or decode Base64 back to text. Local files up to 10 MiB can also be encoded, and decoding accepts full data URLs. Binary results are offered as a local download while text results stay in the output pane where you can copy them.
Why use it?
Base64 represents bytes using text so they can pass through text-only interfaces. It is useful for transport and inspection, but it provides no secrecy.
How to use this tool
- Paste text or choose a local file for encoding, or paste an encoded value for decoding.
- Choose the intended encode or decode action and review any reported format error.
- Copy the text result or use the available file download for binary output. Check that you decoded bytes, not an extra layer of already encoded text.
Details and limitations
- Text is encoded as UTF-8, so accented characters and emoji survive the round trip intact.
- Decoding accepts a bare Base64 string or a complete data: URL and strips the prefix for you.
- Malformed Base64 produces an explicit error instead of truncated output.
- File downloads are generated in the browser from an object URL; nothing is uploaded to produce them.
